Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.1 Released

Updated Firefox! Get downloading…

I’ve not downloaded and installed Firefox 1.5.0.1 on both my PC and my Mac, and all is running well. Things seem a touch faster too. Prior to this install, I had noticed some tendency on Mac Firefox to crash, something with Bookmark Manager and waking up, it seemed, so we’ll see if that’s sorted out.

The only thing with the Mac version that still eludes me: why doesn’t the tab navigation (ctrl-tab and shift-ctrl-tab) work on Firefox in OS X? Or am I thick?

  1. I think if you replace the ctl with Command it should work. I could be wrong though.

  2. Cmd-Tab is actually the Mac’s version of Windows Alt-Tab, so it just cycles through open applications. I’ve tried other combinations, but none work, yet I think it’s supposed to. I’m guessing it’s just some weird Firefox/Mac bug?

  3. Ah your right, my bad = )

With a bunch of tabs open in Firefox, you can cycle through the tabs with Command-1, Command-2, Command-3, etc. This will select the respective tab, starting with the leftmost one. This is great for laptop surfing. I just happened upon this accidently when reaching for Command-W to close one, and hit Command-2 instead. Great!
[robg adds: You can also use Control-Page Up and Control-Page Down to cycle through tabs in order, in case you have more than nine open at once. I'm also running this hint to point people towards the Firefox built-in help system: Help -> Help Contents from within Firefox. If you haven't visited it lately, it's come a long way since the pre-1.0 releases. The above keyboard shortcuts are documented in the Tabbed Browsing -> Using Tabbed Browsing section. There are a lot of useful tips in the help, and it's well worth the reading time!]

  5. Bless you, bless you, bless you. I haven’t looked at the help for a while, but I will check it out. Those commands work nicely. Thanks!
