Could be new year malaise, but I’m wondering about this here site. Is it time to change things? Redesign? Recategorize? Rethink what I post, what I write, what I link?
What would you want to see, that isn’t here? What would you want to go away, this is here currently? What would you want different, or more of, or less?
Bugger if I know. I’m not even sure what I want. Just a hunch that it’s time for some change.

I think it’s just fine. I enjoy the eclectic mix of stuff you post. I like the small, personal touches, and the recipes are always much appreciated (tho still waiting for a chance to try the gussied up sausage biscuits). If I had any complaint, I’d ask you to talk a little more about travel :-p
I for one wouldn’t mind seeing more book reviews. I always appreciate adding new literary goodness to my reading list.
Yeah we like you the way you are I think. I personally like the personal tidbits more than the other stuff, but then I did use a link you posted just today so that’s useful as well. A good balance of Engaging reading and other geek-a-ry
= )
A site redesign might be fun, if your just looking for a change. Also more travel stories are always appreciated. I bet you have a ton as well.
Almost forgot Beer Lao. More of that too. (I am still dying to try it)
Thank you.
So…some more travel, and more reviews – good ideas. With all the reading I do, I could write enough reviews to last a year…
And perhaps some more booze posts too.
I’m still mulling a redesign though – maybe one of the main-content-left columns and 2 skinny right columns that seem pretty prevalent?
I’m not a big fan of that type of layout b/c it makes it harder — I think — to see the two individual columns. Then again, I go with the one column only, but you put up much more information than me.
the big question: will you change the color scheme? Oh, and is the nam photo going away?
I’ve had mixed feelings about those layouts too. On the one hand, it’s nice that nothing distracts you from the main content, but on the other hand, I always have trouble reading those columns. And maybe this goes for others too, but I’m used to navigation being on the left for websites.
Maybe the columns will stay put.
The column scheme will stay for now, I like my green and blue. The photo… don’t know. I’ll have to see what else I have – at the least, I’ve thought about changing it out now and again for special days, kind of the way Google changes their logo.
Any tips for sprucing up the link lists?
I dunno, the links list is hard. Too many links for my taste, but some people like that. you could move to drop down menus, but sometimes that limits usability (for awhile, I had recent comments on a drop down, and it’s annoying to click something before seeing if there are recent comments).
I do like to analyze usage and then move things around accordingly. If most of your visitors like to read categories, it’s nice to have those links near the top. On my blog, categories are less important, so I’ve got photos at the top with recent comments just below (and I might flip those around — I like having recent comments in a prominent place to encourage discussion).
You mostly want to think about why you’ve included each list of links and whether or not it’s doing a good job in its assigned location. Could a section of the page be more efficient elsewhere (or, not less efficient?). It’s that “maximize efficiency” sort of thing, but it’s difficulty to do b/c different people have different things they look at on blogs.
Hmmm…. I’ll have to look at that. There are some that could perhaps just get proper writeups (eg, take the “AntSaint Uses…” and do a post per link for the underused “Stuff I Use” category).
On the other hand, I like the big lists… I’ll mull it over. Thank you.
to each their own. if you like the big lists, you like them
