"Everything you need to know about owning, enjoying and maintaining your bike."
Tidbit: I have the mechanical ability of a teapot. However, after reading the maintenance section (Chapter 4, p. 120-155), this teapot just might be able to mechanically look after his (eventual) ride.
Trying to decide? Quick-and-dirty spreads give you the basics of what you need to weigh for any type of bike, from sporties to tourers. And the photos are pretty slick.
Before you ride. This book is all about overviews, but the overviews are good in that they give you the needed idea of what you need. It’s meant to get you thinking, not give you full and comprehensive answers. So here, you’ll get an overview on gear, apparel, insurance, training.
Know thy ride like thou know theeself. Or, at least know your motorcycle better than I probably know thy’s, thee’s and thou’s. What are the mechanics of a motorcycle? What are the physics that affect the whys and hows of a design. How do all these parts work, and work in a way that means you can go zoom-zoom?
Maintain thy, er, your, maintenance knowledge. As plugged above in the tidbit, you’ll learn all the essentials of oil changes, checking your cables, and even the proper way to put your bike in long-term storage.
This is a slim book that gives you all the basics you need for, you guessed it, buying, owning and maintaining a motorcycle. At the least find out if it’s at your local library — but it’s a handy reference that you can thumb through easily, a good book to keep by the tools in the garage.

y’know, to keep by those tools — that you don’t own — in the garage — that you don’t have — but other than that, you’re doing great
how’s the motorcycle search going?
I flipped through that book for quite a stretch of time at Barnes & Noble one day. However, my dreams of cycle ownership pretty much dissolved when I found out Jeannie and I were pregnant.
It has always been a bad idea for me to have a bike though….my need for speed has always been a bit out of control anyway, and I’ve never been interested in a bike that wasn’t a maniacal crotch-rocket or a sweet, completely out-of-reach BMW….
Tools, garages – ah, no biggie… I’ll manage
Endub – ouch. but then again, you do have that wee lovely now!
As for me, I’ve never been much for the crotch-rockets. I’ll take the chilled-out look of a cruiser anytime.
