Create III

Written by Anthony St. Clair for oneword January 19, 2007 11:11 PM
There was nothing left to create, not a plate of bacon or a new turtle. All the beer was ready, all the cars were zipping down the roads, and all he could do was think, "what now?"

Create II

Written by Anthony St. Clair for oneword January 16, 2007 10:18 PM
This isn't cooking, this is creation. It's not about mixing and heat and time - it's about the will to create something damn good. And it's so much simpler that the looks on your faces say. We have food. We have ingredients. We can cook. Now, let's create.

Create

Written by Anthony St. Clair for oneword January 15, 2007 07:54 PM
The will to create coursed through him, burned like blood and god. It hepped him up like 10 shots of espresso, widened his eyes like a naked woman; he stood and shouted, he ran for his study, his grabbed the wind in his hands and the light in his eyes and he began to create.

Elevate

Written by Anthony St. Clair for oneword JJanuary 9, 2007 09:21 PM
But did it elevate the phone to something more, to something more than function and a tool, to more than even beauty or art? It was just a phone - but that was also like saying Earth was just a planet. Completely true, but such an understatement.

Contrast

Written by Anthony St. Clair for oneword January 8, 2007 07:34 PM
"You've surely got all your resolutions set and underway." "No, I don't." "But how can you not? Everyone does." "Well in contrast to them, I don't. I have but one resolution, and I made it long, long, ago." "What is it?" "To never again make a new year's resolution — and I've always kept it, every year."

Give

Written by Anthony St. Clair for oneword December 14, 2006 04:41 PM
"Give," he said, "just, for once, give a little. It's not going to kill you... it might even save you." They looked at each other, and another precious minute ticked away. "Please," he thought, "please," watching the clock all the while.

Panic

Written by Anthony St. Clair for oneword December 12, 2006 08:41 PM
The panic fell as time slowed, as the arc of the sword, an eternity ago a blur, slowed, and slowed, and slowed, until it was just a strip of metal hung in the air. He ducked; his mind fell away; he moved, and his limbs rose, moved forward, swung back; he thought there were cries, but if there were, there would be time to hear them later, later, when time came back, when he was the only one standing, and the sound he would know best, would be the sound of his pulse in his ears.

Belief

Written by Anthony St. Clair for oneword December 11, 2006 05:07 PM
There was no belief in her eyes, and that was the worst part. "But I've told you and told you," he said, then stopped, when she shrugged and started walking away. "There's telling, and there's doing. You've told. But done? If only you could tell me what you'd done — then, then," but she stopped talking, and just walked out of the room instead.

Alternate

Written by Anthony St. Clair for oneword December 7, 2006 04:38 PM
"I'm just the alternate," she said, "but I learn fast. So why don't we sit down, have a civilized drink of something single-malt, and until the other one gets back, you can get over yourself enough to tell me what's going on - or, if you don't, well - maybe we just ought to have that drink and skip the what-ifs."

Fluent

Written by Anthony St. Clair for oneword December 6, 2006 06:04 PM
I"What do you mean you can't speak Thai? I thought you were fluent?" "Fluent? Christ, I can barely order a beer, and the first time I tried that, the bartender thought I was trying to get laid!" "What? What did you say?" "Well, maybe it wasn't so much what I said, and more that I was waving a 100-baht note and had my other hand on her ass at the time..."
