Power User's Guide to Firefox 3

Upgrading to Firefox 3 has been working out great so far. I do look forward to extensions such as AutoCopy updating soon, but otherwise I'm very pleased with the browser's improvements. I've also been learning more about getting the most of Firefox 3, with this handy "Power User's Guide":

Link: Firefox 3: Power User's Guide to Firefox 3.

"it's time to dig deep and unearth the shortcuts, tweaks, and even Easter eggs that Mozilla marketing doesn't mention. In honor of today's official release of Firefox 3—at 10AM Pacific Time—let's dive in past Firefox 3's most talked-about feature-set into its lesser-known power uses, tricks, and customizations"

Field Guide to Firefox 3

Tomorrow (Tuesday, June 17) is launch day for the new Firefox 3. Excited? You know, I am, and I don't usually get too excited over software. But with so many improvements coming to the new Firefox, from using less memory to more robust bookmarking, I cannot wait to see how my favorite browser's new version performs. To help prepare for the launch, there's a very detailed and image-rich Field Guide to the new 'Fox:

Link: dria.org Blog Archive Field Guide to Firefox 3.

"We’re done. Firefox 3 is going to be launched very soon. In anticipation of this long-awaited event, the folks in the Mozilla community have been writing extensively about the new and improved features you’ll see in the browser. The new features cover the full range from huge and game-changing to ones so subtle you may not notice them until you realize that using Firefox is just somehow easier and better. The range of improved features is similar — whole back-end systems have been rebuilt from scratch, while other features have been tweaked slightly or redesigned in small ways. Overall the result is the fastest, safest, slimmest, and easiest to use version of Firefox yet."

Top 10 Firefox 3 Features

Bring on Firefox 3! FF has been getting some major overhauling done, from the sound of things, and I'm stoked to see what the final version is like. Lifehacker has done a great comprehensive breakdown of what's coming up, and what's been worked on (less memory hogging, anyone?) for the new release:

Link: Lifehacker Top 10: Top 10 Firefox 3 Features.

"Nearly everything in the open-source app has gotten a second look from the minds at Mozilla, from back buttons to bookmarks, address bars to add-ons, passwords to performance, and the changes will make Firefox 3 worth the upgrade come its official release date, slated for sometime next month. Let's take a look at the 10 best upgrades in Firefox 3"

Lifehacker test drives Firefox 3.0 beta

Lifehacker's got a great breakdown, with screenshots, of the latest beta release of Firefox 3.0. Some good innovations in here, namely the "Stars" to help you identify and manage bookmarks, and a rich interface to manage feeds and file types. No mention yet on whether Mozilla has roped in Firefox's tendency to be a memory hog, but we shall see:

Firebug 1.0 Beta

I've been fiddling with this handy extension for checking and fiddling with CSS, HTML, etc., inside of Firefox. SitePoint speaks highly of Firebug, and so far I'm concurring:

FireBug: "The King of Firefox Validators"

Along with Colorzilla, MeasureIt and the Web Developer Toolbar, Firebug rounds out any web geek's Firefox web toolbox. Sitepoint reviews the new Firebug error-catcher extension as streamlined, unobtrusive and efficient. Now that I've got that out of my way, I have a new webgeek extension to download.

FireBug - Firefox Extension

Via: SitePoint Blogs FireBug— The King of Firefox Validators.

In its inactive mode Firebug’s auto-validator is completely invisible on valid pages, and displays a simple ‘error counter’ in your status bar on pages with errors. Definitely less is more. Clicking the counter folds out a feedback toolbar detailing each error.

Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.1 Released

Updated Firefox! Get downloading...

I've not downloaded and installed Firefox 1.5.0.1 on both my PC and my Mac, and all is running well. Things seem a touch faster too. Prior to this install, I had noticed some tendency on Mac Firefox to crash, something with Bookmark Manager and waking up, it seemed, so we'll see if that's sorted out.

The only thing with the Mac version that still eludes me: why doesn't the tab navigation (ctrl-tab and shift-ctrl-tab) work on Firefox in OS X? Or am I thick?

Link: Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.1 Release Notes.

Firefox 1.5.0.1 is a stability and security update that is part of ours ongoing program to provide a safe Internet experience for our customers. We recommend that all users upgrade to this latest version.

Here's what's new in Firefox 1.5.0.1:

* Improved stability.

* Improved support for Mac OS X.

* International Domain Name support for Iceland (.is) is now enabled.

* Fixes for several memory leaks.

* Several security enhancements.
